How much is your agency keeping?
Two numbers from your last agency invoice. The answer updates as you type.
Before VAT, per engineer hour.
One 4 on 4 off rota slot is about 15.
Of every £60.00 hour you pay, the engineer probably sees about £48. The other £12.00 stays with the agency.
Same cover through Shiftt
The engineer sets £51.43 an hour and keeps all of it. You pay £56.57 an hour including the flat 10% fee.
At this markup there is almost nothing between engineer pay and your bill. Open the breakdown to check the assumption.

Sites rarely see what the engineer is paid. If you know it, set the markup to match.
| Per hour | Agency | Shiftt |
|---|---|---|
| You pay | £60.00 | £56.57 |
| Engineer gets | £48.00 | £51.43 |
| Middle keeps | £12.00 | £5.14 |
- On Shiftt the engineer sets their own rate and keeps all of it. The site pays that rate plus a flat 10% fee.
- The Shiftt figures assume the engineer prices halfway between their agency pay and your agency cost, so both sides gain the same amount. Engineers set their own rates, so real rates will vary.
- Compares a limited company engineer working outside IR35. If your agency engineer is on PAYE or an umbrella, part of the charge rate covers employer NI and holiday pay, so the real gap is smaller.
- All figures exclude VAT. A year is 12 months of the shifts you entered.
